Nas recently shared new details about a missed opportunity to work with Eminem on the remix of his personal track “Daughters.” The story came to light during Nas’ appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast with producer DJ Premier. Both artists discussed how Nas had invited Eminem to appear on the remix of “Daughters,” a song from Nas’ 2012 album “Life is Good,” which explores his relationship with his daughter, Destiny Jones.
Nas explained that Eminem, known for writing several tracks about his own daughter Hailie Jade, respectfully declined the invitation at the time. According to Nas, Eminem said he did not want to record any more songs focused on daughters because it was a sensitive subject for him. Nas recalled Eminem telling him, “Thank you, but I’m not going to. I’m not doing any more songs directly about daughters at the moment because that’s a sensitive issue with all the music I put out.”
Eminem also expressed appreciation for the offer, noting that many artists usually want to compete with him lyrically when asked to collaborate. He told Nas he found it refreshing that this invitation was not about lyrical battling, but rather about sharing a sincere message.
The connection between both rappers is notable because Eminem has written emotional songs about his daughter, such as his 2004 single “Mockingbird,” as well as more recent tracks like “Temporary” and “Somebody Save Me.” These songs have made Eminem’s relationship with his daughter a recurring theme in his music, which he referenced as a reason for turning down Nas’ request for another song in a similar vein.
Nas also mentioned in previous interviews that he approached both Eminem and Jay-Z about working together on “Life is Good,” but scheduling conflicts prevented these collaborations from happening. The story highlights the respect between two key figures in hip-hop and offers insight into how personal experiences shape the music and choices of major artists.
