Belgian singer-songwriter Camille Willemart, performing under the name Camille Camille, is set to release her sophomore album “Enchanted Sea” on May 29th through Labelman. Building on the intimate and atmospheric style of her 2021 debut, this new collection delves deeper into personal themes with a delicate and evocative sound.
The album’s lead single, “J’ai rêvé,” marks a significant milestone for Camille as it is her first song sung in French, her mother tongue. The track captures the emotional landscape of longing and hope found in a long-distance relationship. Camille describes it as a modern sailor’s ballad, expressing the yearning to reunite with a loved one despite the barriers of time and space.
Starting from simple guitar melodies, “J’ai rêvé” gradually evolved into a fuller arrangement enriched by drums and flutes. Camille likens the flutes to angelic voices that offer comfort amid uncertainty. The recording process was deeply collaborative, involving close friends and talented musicians such as Felix Baele on bass and charango, Orlan Ghekiere on drums, along with contributors on clarinet, harmonium, and guitar. Most of the album was recorded at home before being polished at Michiel Renson’s studio, resulting in a distinct yet cohesive sound throughout.
Visual storytelling plays a key role in this release as well. The music video for “J’ai rêvé” was created alongside Madrid-based photographer Elisa Soto, whose ethereal and authentic style perfectly complements the song’s emotional depth. This artistic partnership enhances the overall narrative of the album, weaving together sound and imagery.
“Enchanted Sea” explores complex themes such as the challenges of adulthood, balancing freedom with responsibility, the vastness of nature’s beauty, and fragile love. Camille Camille’s music has often been compared to folk artists like Josephine Foster and Robbie Basho due to its gentle guitar work, subtle melodies, and haunting vocals.
Since her debut album “Could You Lend Me Your Eyes,” Camille has steadily gained recognition across Belgium and Europe. She has toured with acclaimed acts including King Hannah, Widowspeak, and Kurt Vile, earning praise for her sincere songwriting and quiet intensity.
With “Enchanted Sea,” Camille Camille invites listeners on an intimate journey through cinematic soundscapes filled with poetic reflections on life’s complexities. The album promises to resonate deeply with those who appreciate heartfelt music woven with rich instrumentation and evocative storytelling.
