However, it’s hard for me not to feel that Black Myth: Goku’s beautiful picture quality and rich details have come at a huge cost.I’ve experienced several game flashbacks, and one of the most painful ones was when I just played a very difficult Boss and then flashed back, causing me to have to replay.Other times it’s not as bad. Most of the flashbacks happen when I just enter a new chapter or teleport to another level, but after a lot of times, it still makes me feel frustrated.
In addition, there were several times when all the voices and subtitles suddenly disappeared during important cutscenes, leaving me completely unaware of what was being said, and there was no way to watch the cutscenes again; although I set the voice to English, sometimes the NPC would suddenly speak Chinese; the English voice did not match the mouth shape at all;And most of the log entries found along the way aren’t even anglicized.
But worst of all, in one of the Boss battles, in the transition animation before the final stage, the Boss would throw me to the ground, but by the time I regained control, I had already crossed the floor and fallen into the void. This happened repeatedly, causing me to suspect that my game had a fatal Bug and that I might never be able to pass it.But after I “kept repeating the same thing and expecting different results” like a madman, I actually got a different result, but I never figured out how I did it.
Hopefully, Game Science will address these technical issues in the future with an updated patch — it’s definitely possible, because even Cyberpunk 2077, which launched with a lot of bugs, has finally been fixed in a decent way (speaking of which, the game was not available on the console at the time of the review).I hope the fix comes soon, because while I honestly think Black Myth: Goku is good enough to put up with these issues, I want to recommend it without having to be reminded of them.
Sum up
As Game Science’s first action game, Black Myth: Goku has generally been a huge success, but there were some serious technical problems and localization issues in the launch phase, which may cause some frustration. The combat is excellent thanks to a clever balance of “careful resource management”and”lightning-fast, responsive gameplay.” While this game is closer to a traditional action game than FromSoftware’s, it’s no less challenging than Eldon’s Ring. Not only that, there are a lot of exciting Boss battles and a variety of enemies in the game, and the world they live in is absolutely a double enjoyment of vision and hearing. The story has its merits, but it relies too much on players’ knowledge of the story of Journey to the West, and it also needs a map to match the rewarding exploration process with its excellent combat experience. But it’s good enough to make up for these problems, making Black Myth: Goku a great action game in the end, and if game science can solve those bugs, it can be even better.
