Jim Jones, a celebrated western folk singer and songwriter, will be performing alongside fellow artist Randy Palmer at Society Hall in Alamosa on Saturday, April 25. Known for his rich storytelling through music, Jones has earned numerous awards including the International Western Music Association’s Male Performer of the Year in 2014 and Song of the Year in 2019. His work has also been recognized by the Academy of Western Artists and the Western Writers of America with multiple Spur Awards. Over his career, Jones has produced twelve albums centered on themes of the American West, including cowboys, horses, cattle rustlers, and the majestic western sky. His latest album, “Storyteller: Tales From the West,” continues this tradition by capturing the spirit of the land and its people.
Randy Palmer, hailing from Amarillo, Texas, complements Jones’s style with songs that celebrate everyday life and the beauty found in ordinary moments. His music encourages listeners to appreciate life’s simple pleasures and cherish the gifts along their journeys. Palmer is promoting his new CD titled “Waterline,” produced by Austin’s Merel Bregante, and plans to perform selections from this album as well as past works during the event.
The concert at Society Hall promises an evening filled with heartfelt western music that highlights connections to people and place. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $20 and can be purchased locally or online. This event is part of a series that brings notable artists to Alamosa, including previous performances by CMA Award-winning singer-songwriter Gretchen Peters and folk artist Eliza Gilkyson.
Both Jim Jones and Randy Palmer use their music to tell stories about life on the western plains, celebrating the landscape’s rivers, mountains, and skies along with its hardworking people. Their songs reflect a deep respect for heritage and a desire to keep western traditions alive through song and narrative. Audiences can expect an intimate experience that combines musical skill with rich storytelling.
This upcoming concert not only showcases individual talent but also honors a shared cultural history rooted in the American West. By focusing on themes about people, land, and the good things in life, Jones and Palmer invite listeners to reflect on their own connections to place and community through timeless western melodies.
