British rock legends Duran Duran have returned with a vibrant new single titled “Free to Love,” a disco-inspired track that celebrates freedom and love. Released on April 23, 2026, the song marks a renewed collaboration with famed musician and producer Nile Rodgers, who has worked with the band since the 1980s. This upbeat track brings disco vibes from the 1970s into the modern era, blending funk, new wave, and dance elements to create a lively anthem for today’s listeners.
Singer Simon Le Bon described the song as “disco for the 2020s,” emphasizing its optimistic message about embracing freedom and loving the contemporary world instead of rejecting it. “Be free! Be free to love!” he urged in a statement accompanying the release. The song’s lyrics reflect themes of unconditional love and personal liberty, with Le Bon singing lines like “Free to love, be free to win or lose” and “Do what you want to do.”
Nile Rodgers, now 73, co-wrote the track with Duran Duran and also appears in the accompanying music video directed by Jonas Åkerlund. The video captures a retro disco party atmosphere filled with glittering lights, enthusiastic dancers, and nostalgic references to classic music shows. British TV personality Clara Amfo hosts within the video, introducing the band’s performance that radiates positive energy and celebration.
Keyboardist Nick Rhodes praised Rodgers for his electric energy during their studio sessions, saying it could “light up a whole city.” Rhodes highlighted that both he and Rodgers share a deep belief in music as a force for good that can bring hope, peace, and understanding to listeners worldwide. He described “Free to Love” as an anthem for freedom—the most valuable currency available to everyone everywhere—and stressed how much the world needs more freedom and love at this moment.
The collaboration between Duran Duran and Nile Rodgers has a rich history dating back over four decades when Rodgers remixed their hit “The Reflex” in 1984. Since then, Rodgers has contributed as a producer and guitarist on several Duran Duran projects. This new single continues their legacy of combining their talents to create music that resonates across generations.
Looking ahead, Duran Duran plans to perform “Free to Love” live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on April 29. They are also scheduled for several high-profile concerts in 2026 including headlining the BeachLife Festival in Redondo Beach, California, a residency at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, and a European tour spanning countries such as Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Hungary, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and the UK’s BST Hyde Park festival.
With over 100 million albums sold worldwide and numerous awards including two Grammys and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, Duran Duran remains one of Britain’s most influential bands. Their latest work with Nile Rodgers reaffirms their commitment to creating uplifting music that inspires freedom, love, and unity in today’s world.
