Carla Muller, a singer-songwriter from Woolwich, Ontario, has released two deeply personal songs titled “That Tree” and “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright,” both of which honor her relationships with her sisters. These tracks, available through Canterbury Music Company, form a touching tribute to the strength and love found within family connections, especially sisterhood.
“That Tree,” co-written with the late Sean Cunnington, tells the true story of Muller’s older sister Erika. As a young girl, Erika fell thirty feet from an oak tree but showed incredible resilience by walking home despite the fall. Later, when her bicycle was stolen, she chased down the thief on her sister Carla’s bike—even though it had flat tires—and returned with both bicycles. This story inspired the song’s message about courage and determination, encouraging listeners to reach for what seems out of reach.
The second song, “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright,” co-written with Scott Metcalfe, carries a deeply emotional weight. Carla wrote it in 2008 while her younger sister Francine was in a coma for nineteen days. She sang this song repeatedly by her sister’s bedside despite doctors’ doubts that Francine could hear her. Miraculously, Francine woke up and asked about the song. Sadly, Francine passed away in October 2024 from a heart condition, and Carla performed this song at her funeral as a final farewell.
Both songs are part of Carla Muller’s dual album release, ‘In Between’ and ‘Paper Stars,’ which showcase her unique style of acoustic storytelling combined with cinematic soundscapes. Working with Canadian musicians and producers such as Jason Fowler and Scott Metcalfe, Muller has crafted music that is intimate and emotionally powerful. Her songwriting focuses on detailed personal memories—like a ten-speed Schwinn bicycle or a rose-colored velvet rocking chair—to bring universal themes to life.
Muller describes her creative approach as writing for those she loves and herself across time. These songs highlight resilience, devotion, and the unbreakable bonds between sisters in ways that resonate beyond family to anyone who has experienced deep love and loss. The release of these tracks is already drawing attention for their heartfelt honesty and strong narrative power.
Living in Woolwich with her husband Tom and three children, Carla Muller continues to write music rooted in real life experiences and emotional truths. Her latest songs stand out as compelling additions to the tradition of singer-songwriters who use their craft to honor family ties and celebrate human strength through adversity. Both “That Tree” and “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” are now available for streaming and purchase.
