Josh Groban is set to release his new album, ‘CINEMATIC,’ on May 8, featuring his renditions of famous songs from classic films. This project, produced by Greg Wells, includes ten tracks inspired by beloved movies such as The Godfather, Casablanca, The Lion King, Stand by Me, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Recorded in Los Angeles and London, the album offers a fresh take on timeless music that has shaped many cinematic experiences.
Groban describes ‘CINEMATIC’ as a tribute to the emotional power of movie music. He says that songs and scores have a unique way of enhancing stories and leaving a lasting impression long after the film ends. With this album, he aims to capture that feeling of nostalgia and drama while adding his own vocal style and interpretation to these well-known pieces.
Among the standout tracks is a Sicilian-language version of “Brucia La Terra” from The Godfather, which brings an authentic cultural touch to the song. Another highlight is an orchestral arrangement of “As Time Goes By” from Casablanca. Groban also performs a duet of “Unchained Melody” with Jennifer Hudson, who has collaborated with him before. A touching moment on the album features Groban singing “Moon River” alongside his father, Jack Groban, who plays the trumpet solo.
The album opens with Groban’s new version of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King. This track includes a special contribution from the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, adding rich harmonies to the performance. Groban also delivers a dramatic vocal rendition of “Skyfall,” showcasing his ability to interpret powerful ballads.
In addition to releasing ‘CINEMATIC,’ Josh Groban is currently on his global GEMS World Tour. The tour began with a sold-out concert in Honolulu and has since taken him through Asia and Oceania with stops in cities such as Taipei, Singapore, Jakarta, Manila, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. Upcoming European dates include shows in Dublin, London, Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Amsterdam.
The North American leg of the tour will start in June with performances at major venues like TD Garden in Boston, Madison Square Garden in New York City, and Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Jennifer Hudson will join Groban as a special guest for these shows. Later this year, Groban will return to Las Vegas for his residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
With ‘CINEMATIC,’ Josh Groban offers fans an opportunity to revisit some of cinema’s most memorable songs through his distinctive voice and emotional delivery. The album blends classic melodies with new arrangements to create a listening experience that honors both the past and present of film music.
