Bleachers, the band fronted by Jack Antonoff, has unveiled a new single titled “The Van,” celebrating the spirit of house concerts and DIY touring that marked the beginning of his musical journey. This track is featured on their forthcoming album Everyone for Ten Minutes. In the song, Antonoff reflects on formative moments from his early career, including stops at unconventional venues like Wawa convenience stores and underground spots such as the Wayne Firehouse in New Jersey. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a pivotal tour that solidified his dedication to music, capturing the mix of determination and excitement that defined those days.
Unlike typical road-life anthems, the music video for “The Van,” directed by Alex Lockett, emphasizes intimacy and community. It begins with Antonoff shaving his head before joining Bleachers in a modest apartment where they rehearse together. The music draws neighbors outside who eventually enter to share an impromptu house show with the band. This portrayal highlights the unique bond between emerging artists and their local communities during the early stages of their careers.
“The Van” follows two earlier singles from Everyone for Ten Minutes: “You and Forever” and “Dirty Wedding Dress.” The video for “You and Forever,” also directed by Lockett, featured Antonoff alongside his wife, actress Margaret Qualley. Everyone for Ten Minutes will be Bleachers’ fifth studio album, following their self-titled release earlier in 2024.
To support the new album, Bleachers have announced a North American tour starting June 5 in Chicago and running through October. They will also headline the opening night of this year’s Rolling Stone Rock Tour on May 20 at the Fillmore in New Orleans. The tour lineup includes acts Been Stellar and Thomas Dollbaum.
This latest release marks a return to the roots of live performance culture that many musicians cherish—intimate house shows that foster close connections and create lasting memories. Through “The Van,” Antonoff captures both nostalgia for those early days and optimism about the future, honoring how small venues and grassroots touring inspire artists to chase their dreams.
