The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2026 inductees, featuring a diverse group of influential artists across various genres. The announcement was made during a live broadcast on Monday night’s episode of “American Idol.” This year’s class includes 18 honorees such as Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Sade, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, Queen Latifah, and others. These artists will be officially inducted in a ceremony scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The event will later be aired on ABC and Disney+ in December.
To qualify for induction, artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior. More than 1,200 music industry professionals, historians, and artists voted on the nominees to determine this year’s inductees. The list highlights performers who have made significant contributions to rock music by shaping its sound and culture.
Among the performers entering the Hall of Fame for the first time as solo artists is Phil Collins. Previously inducted as a member of Genesis in 2010, Collins is recognized for his extensive career spanning over five decades and selling more than 150 million records worldwide. His musical journey includes work as a drummer, singer, songwriter, and producer, blending genres like progressive rock, pop, R&B, and soul.
Other notable inductees include Billy Idol, who helped popularize punk rock with his distinctive style and sound during the 1980s. Iron Maiden is honored for defining heavy metal’s blueprint with powerful albums and dynamic live shows throughout the decade. Joy Division/New Order are celebrated for pioneering post-punk and electronic dance music that influenced countless artists globally.
Oasis is recognized as one of the most successful British bands of all time, known for their anthemic rock songs that became cultural anthems in the 1990s. Sade has been praised for her unique fusion of jazz, soul, and R&B across four decades. Luther Vandross’s induction acknowledges his status as one of the most gifted vocalists and songwriters in R&B history.
The Wu-Tang Clan also joins this prestigious group for their revolutionary impact on hip-hop music and culture. Their influence extends beyond music into fashion and film, inspiring many prominent artists in the genre.
The Hall of Fame also honors contributors in categories beyond performers. This year’s Early Influence Award recipients include Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons—artists who helped shape rock music through their pioneering work. The Musical Excellence Award recognizes songwriters and producers like Linda Creed and Rick Rubin for their creative impact.
Non-performing industry figures such as Ed Sullivan receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for their role in promoting rock music’s growth and cultural influence. Some notable nominees who were not inducted this year include Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, Jeff Buckley, Pink, New Edition, and Shakira.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continues to celebrate artists whose work has left a lasting mark on music history. This year’s class reflects a broad spectrum of styles and generations that have shaped rock and its related genres over the last several decades.
