Two highly anticipated albums centered on love songs are set to captivate music fans in 2026, with Olivia Rodrigo and Don Walker both announcing releases that explore different facets of romantic emotion. Olivia Rodrigo, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, is preparing to launch her third studio album titled ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love’ on June 12. This release comes three years after her acclaimed album GUTS and promises a fresh yet familiar sound that delves into the complexities of love from a youthful perspective.
Rodrigo revealed the album details on Instagram, sharing the cover art featuring her upside down on a swing in a pink dress, signaling a new aesthetic departure. Despite the brighter visuals, she confirms the music will retain the emotional depth that fans have come to expect. Collaborating again with producer Dan Nigro, who worked on her first two albums, Rodrigo aims to capture both the joyful and challenging sides of romantic relationships. She shared in interviews that writing songs about happiness presented unique creative challenges compared to heartbreak, adding layers of longing, jealousy, and yearning to the album’s themes.
The record contains 13 tracks, including two already available for streaming. Drawing inspiration from her time in London, Olivia describes many songs as “sad love songs” with a dreamy and hazy atmosphere. She also notes influences from pop culture moments, such as a ‘Sex and the City’ scene that inspired one track’s storytelling approach. While shifting slightly away from her earlier pop-rock style, Rodrigo assures fans that her new work will still echo the emotional resonance of her previous hits.
Meanwhile, Australian music icon Don Walker is preparing to release his fifth studio album titled ‘Love Songs’ on August 7 via MGM Distribution. Known primarily for his work with Cold Chisel and collaborations across various projects like Tex Don & Charlie, Walker’s new album is described as his most personal yet. The nine-track collection showcases his storytelling prowess through piano-driven ballads enriched with layered guitars, steel guitar, horns, and harmonies.
Walker has enlisted several respected musicians to contribute to this project, including the late Roy Payne on guitar and Garrett Costigan on pedal steel. The first single, ‘Let’s All Get Together,’ features Walker’s distinctive voice alongside Suave Fucks and The Harmonettes. In addition to the album release, Walker will embark on a national tour across Australia starting October 16 in Melbourne and continuing through venues in Geelong, Sydney, Eumundi, and Brisbane. Tickets went on sale shortly after the album announcement.
Both artists highlight different perspectives on love—Rodrigo focusing on youthful emotional complexity and Walker offering mature reflections through intimate musical arrangements. Their upcoming albums promise to add fresh voices to the collection of fun songs about love while exploring deeper emotional layers. Music enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing these new works that celebrate love’s joys and challenges through distinctive artistic lenses.
