Milwaukee’s Lake Park is set to come alive this summer with a vibrant lineup of free music events designed to entertain visitors of all ages. The popular Lake Park Musical Mondays series will showcase eight evenings of diverse musical styles, ranging from Afro-Cuban jazz and New Orleans funk to bluegrass and classic songwriting tributes. These concerts will take place at the Lake Park Summer Stage every Monday evening from July 6 through August 24, running from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organized by the nonprofit Lake Park Friends in partnership with Milwaukee County Parks and supported by local sponsors including the Coles Family Foundation and Potawatomi Casino Hotel, the Musical Mondays series celebrates its 28th season by bringing an eclectic mix of sounds to one of Milwaukee’s most cherished outdoor venues. The lineup features Milwaukee favorites such as De La Buena, a powerful Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz band, and The R&B Cadets, known for their danceable originals and unique covers. Other highlights include Flow Tribe’s soulful New Orleans-inspired funk, Laura Rain and the Caesars’ Detroit-rooted R&B, and a special tribute band performing songs by the late songwriter John Prine.

In addition to the Monday concerts, Lake Park Friends also presents Wonderful Wednesdays, a family-friendly music series aimed at children and their families. Running from July 15 through August 19, these Wednesday performances will offer an hour of engaging music starting at 6:30 p.m. The lineup includes a range of acts such as Ian Ash’s nostalgic rock melodies with The Last Bees, award-winning folk artist Lil Rev alongside Will Branch, high-energy youth performances by the Main Street Song & Dance Troupe, and interactive shows by nationally touring children’s musician Little Miss Ann.
Lake Park Friends not only organizes these free concerts but also actively works to enhance the park through volunteer activities like planting and weeding, bird walks, tennis lessons, and free ice skating during colder months. Joanne Barndt, President of Lake Park Friends’ Board, emphasized that these musical events are part of a broader effort to draw people into the park and enrich their outdoor experience while honoring the legacy of Frederick Law Olmsted, the park’s renowned landscape architect.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase on select dates via Milwaukee County’s Traveling Beer Garden near the Summer Stage. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the performances in a relaxed setting surrounded by nature.
The diverse musical offerings at Lake Park this summer promise something for everyone—from jazz enthusiasts and bluegrass fans to families looking for wholesome entertainment. With its scenic location overlooking Lake Michigan, Lake Park continues to be a cultural hub where community members can gather safely to enjoy live music and celebrate local talent alongside national acts.
