Eagan High School is set to present its 2026 musical production titled “ENCORE! Hope is Here,” a show dedicated to spreading messages of optimism, confidence, and hope through music. The Performing Arts Department will host performances over two weekends in the school auditorium, including a free preview for senior citizens. Scheduled showtimes include evenings and afternoons from April 22 through May 2.
Co-directed by Jim Cox and John Ratzlaff, the annual ENCORE! series highlights student talents in singing and dancing. Cox, who is also president elect of the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota, emphasized that this year’s selection of 24 songs aims to inspire joy and hope in audiences. The show features around 30 vocalists performing solos alongside full company numbers.
The production explores various dimensions of hope — both the hope we find in others and the hope we cultivate within ourselves. According to Cox, the performance encourages viewers to embrace optimism and confidence as tools for personal growth and stronger community bonds. Senior cast members expressed excitement about their roles, highlighting the emotional depth and energy that the performances bring.
Senior Augie Bohrer, a dancer and choir member, described the show as a special experience filled with emotion and joy. Senior Alexandra Swords praised ENCORE! as a unique musical theater event focused on dynamic singing and dancing rather than a traditional script. The production spans multiple musical genres from pop to jazz and includes songs ranging from classics of the 1970s to current hits.
Senior Ethan Burch shared that joining ENCORE! expanded his musical tastes and gave him a powerful stage experience through high-energy dance numbers. The show’s technical aspects, including lighting, costumes, and staging, are carefully designed to give each song its own unique character. Retired teacher Retsey Anderson leads the costume department, ensuring every outfit enhances the mood of each performance.
This year’s song lineup includes Stevie Wonder’s uplifting “Don’t You Worry ’Bout a Thing,” Tracy Chapman’s hopeful “Fast Car” arranged with contemporary influences, and “Golden” from the recent KPop-inspired animated film Demon Hunters. The show also highlights diverse student talents such as sophomore Preston Rose, who is blind but sings solos, duets, and plays piano with remarkable skill.
The ENCORE! series is known for showcasing students’ wide-ranging abilities while delivering positive messages through music. Cast members invite audiences of all ages to experience the inspiring performances that promise to leave viewers feeling hopeful about the future.
